At the DELC Foundation, we don’t just teach technology we open doors to opportunity. In a world increasingly shaped by digital innovation, access to quality tech education is no longer a luxury. It’s a necessity. And in Cameroon, many young people still struggle to find meaningful employment or upskilling pathways, we see both a challenge and a call to action.

Our mission is clear: to bridge the digital divide, empower the next generation with tech skills, and create a movement where every student, regardless of background, has the tools to build a better future. Our recent 2-Week Web Development Bootcamp is a testament to that mission, and more importantly, a preview of what’s possible when young minds are given a chance to shine.

Our Why: A Mission Fueled by Urgency and Hope

The youth of Cameroon are not short on ideas, ambition, or potential. What they often lack is access. Access to relevant digital skills. Access to mentorship. Access to a structured learning environment where they can grow.

At DELC Foundation, we’re here to change that narrative. We believe that talent is universal, but opportunity is not. That’s why we design our programs to be practical, beginner-friendly, and deeply inclusive. We don’t require prior experience—just curiosity, commitment, and a desire to learn.

Our bootcamps and workshops are intentionally designed for students, especially those who are beginners or come from low-resource backgrounds. Through these initiatives, we create a nurturing ecosystem where learners don’t just gain skills—they gain community, confidence, and direction.

The April Web Development Bootcamp: Learning by Doing

Held over two weeks in April 2025, our Web Development Bootcamp was a blend of energy, excitement, and education. We welcomed a diverse group of 99 learners from across the country, both in-person at our Buea hub and online via Zoom. Many participants came in as complete beginners, unsure of what to expect. What they left with was far more than just a certificate.

The program focused on practical web development skills, starting with the basics of HTML and CSS and progressing to more advanced concepts like Flexbox, Grid, JavaScript animations, and even theme-switching logic. Learners were divided into two tracks: beginner and advanced, allowing us to meet them where they were in their tech journey.

Each session combined live instruction with hands-on assignments. Beyond that, our dedicated team of facilitators provided constant mentorship through WhatsApp groups, while all resources and recordings were uploaded to Google Drive for flexible access. It wasn’t just about teaching code it was about ensuring no one felt left behind.

Real Skills, Real Projects, Real Growth

Our bootcamp wasn’t just about theory. Every participant completed practical projects to apply their new skills in meaningful ways. Beginners built personal portfolio websites, learning how to structure content, apply design principles, and make their pages responsive across devices. Meanwhile, our advanced learners created interactive theme-switchers, demonstrating a grasp of JavaScript logic and user interface design.

The results spoke for themselves:

  • 92% of beginner participants successfully completed their final projects.
  • 76% of learners grasped responsive design using Flexbox and Grid.
  • 85% reported increased confidence in their ability to pursue a tech career.

More importantly, these numbers represent more than metrics. They reflect determination, progress, and the kind of transformation that happens when learning becomes real.

Building an Inclusive Community of Learners

One of the most inspiring aspects of this bootcamp was the sense of community. Our learners didn’t just learn in isolation; they supported each other, celebrated small wins, and built networks that will extend far beyond the program. Whether it was asking for help in the WhatsApp group or sharing solutions during Q&A sessions, the spirit of collaboration was strong.

And while we were thrilled to see strong female participation in the beginner track (43.6%), we noticed a drop to 28.6% in the advanced group. This tells us that while progress is happening, there’s still work to do to ensure women in tech are supported at every level. That’s why we’re launching targeted programs specifically designed to uplift and retain female talent in the digital space.

We also observed that most participants came from Buea and surrounding areas. Our goal for future bootcamps is to extend access to students in Douala, Limbe, Yaoundé, and underserved regions, through a growing hybrid model and regional partnerships.

Our Impact and What Comes Next

The success of the April Bootcamp is just the beginning. It validated our belief that young Cameroonians are eager to learn and grow—they just need a chance. But it also highlighted key areas for improvement:

  • Retention Challenges: While initial registration was high, only 14 participants made it to the advanced level. We’re responding by developing better learner support systems, including progress tracking, motivational nudges, and peer accountability.
  • Mentorship Needs: Learners benefited immensely from hands-on mentorship. We plan to formalize this into a structured mentorship program, pairing beginners with tech professionals across Africa.
  • Content Expansion: In addition to web development, we’re rolling out bootcamps in graphic design, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship to cater to wider interests and career goals.

At DELC, our vision is long-term. We’re not just creating coders—we’re cultivating thinkers, builders, and changemakers.

Final Thoughts: Tech as a Tool for Transformation

At DELC, we don’t believe in passive learning. We believe in active transformation. We believe in creating spaces where students can discover their potential, fall in love with learning, and gain the confidence to shape their own futures.

The April Web Development Bootcamp was a glimpse into that vision—and just one of many initiatives we’re building to make Cameroon a global force in tech talent.

Because when we empower one learner, we empower a family. When we empower families, we empower communities. And when we empower communities, we begin to transform a nation.
